Bariatric Surgery for Obese Children!

I was watching "the Doctors" this morning when they ran a segment on a surgery that was performed on a two-year child who was morbidly obese.  Because the child was developing co-morbidities and weighed 79 pounds at age two, the parents decided to have weight loss surgery performed on the child.

I think most of the audience was outraged by this, but it makes you wonder, will this become the norm where parents will begin deciding to let their kids have gastric bypass or some other type of bariatric surgery?  While the doctors thought the idea was ludicrous, they were of the belief that the surgery probably saved this child's life.  They did say that the one factor that was unknown was if the child had any hormonal or genetic abnormalities that might have cause this disorder.

What are your thoughts?  If you had a morbidly obese child, and know what you know now about bariatric surgery, if it was available, would you allow your child to have it?  Please leave your comments and feedback below.  Make sure to subscribe, like this page on Facebook, and follow me on Twitter
