What Made You Fat? and Many Other Excuses

Many years ago, I pledged a sorority and we were taught a phrase that I often use with my own family, "Excuses are the tools of the incompetent.  They build monuments of nothingness and those who specialize in them, seldom amount to anything!"  So there are millions of other women and men around that are all too familiar with this mantra.

I saw this topic on another forum and I started thinking of all of the things I remembered saying or being told of why I am or was fat.  Let me start --

  1. My grandmother was fat.
  2. I've got big bones.
  3. My mom just stuffed me when I was a baby -- I can buy that one until age 7 or 8.
  4. I'm lazy.
  5. It's in my genes.
  6. I only had one... okay, it was three, but I didn't eat any more!
  7. The devil made me do it!
  8. I just broke up with my boyfriend/girlfriend.
  9. I'm nervous.
  10. I didn't get the job.
  11. I got the job.
  12. It's ____________! (insert holiday here)
  13. The calories don't count if your mother made it.
  14. Well, everyone else is doing it!
  15. I'll start my diet again tomorrow.
  16. I'll start my diet again on Monday.
  17. OK... I'll start my diet AGAIN in January!!!  I promise.
  18. I hate to exercise.
  19. I'm sore.
  20. I have a bad back.
  21. I'm having a visit from Aunt Flow/that time of the month.
  22. I won't have any whipped cream on it!
  23. I'll scrape off the frosting.
  24. It's only a little piece.
  25. A little piece is not going to hurt you!
  26. I have a big, Southern, African American family.
  27. When we get together we ALWAYS eat!
Please add your list of excuses as well so we can have a huge pile by the year's end.  If we have a lot on responses, I'll write them all on paper, and we will celebrate by burning our excuses to show that we are ridding ourselves of our excuses to lose weight!
